In the winter of 2008 I decided to make some hats. I found someone selling patterns for some sewn hats on Etsy, so I bought one. Sue, the owner of the McHats Etsy shop, and I started emailing back and forth and became email penpals. She had been studying hatmaking and had just started the online shop. I had so much fun with her patterns and got to test a few and help work out the challenges of sending people printable pattern via email. I even sold a few finished hats on Etsy myself. Here are some of the hats I’ve made with her patterns. She has since branched out into photography and takes beautiful images of the Australian shoreline and adorable babies as well – so talented!
These four are all the same pappern – you can wear as a bucket style or flip up the back like a fedora. The black and green were made with beautiful linen; definitely a challenge to work with, but not too bad on a project this size. The pigs and ladybug fabric were Echino cotton linen. I got all these lovely fabrics and notions at Franklin Mill Store.
