Scraps of Projects Past
Here’s a picture of my scrap quilt that hung in the Thimble Pleasures quilt show this spring. I made the square-in-square blocks from lots of scraps from past projects, though it barely seemed to made a dent in my scrap box. I cut them using a technique from Anita Solomon Grossman that I saw years ago on the Simply Quilts TV show. This technique is awesome – it gave me very precise pieces and the cutting went quickly. She recommends then paper piecing, but I opted to freehand it, and it came out great (as you can see, it’s hanging pretty darn flat)!
Her book has the technique for cutting this block as well as a number of other really good techniques. I’ve already got another scrap project in the works based on another pattern from her book. Rotary Cutting Revolution: New One-Step Cutting, 8 Quilt Blocks
Originally I was going to give this quilt away, but after revisiting all those fabrics and knowing how many past projects went into it, I decided to keep it for myself.
